When the news that a park of about six lions had wandered off Nairobi National Park into the neighborhoods of Lang’ata broke, many Kenyans on social media had their minds wondering aloud. So serious was the ‘thinking business’ that one Mujahedeen leaked the thought out of his mind probably before it was mature enough to meet the tenets of logic. “I know @LarryMadowo is trying to secure and interview with the lions now,” tweeted Mujahedeen.
WE’LL HAVE THEM ON #theTREND
And so this casual joke by Mujahedeen got Larry Madowo; the host of a weekly television show, The Trend thinking. It must have however dawned to Larry that having the lions would prove to be an uphill task if not impossible. It could perhaps have meant writing to the Kenya Wildlife Service requesting them to present the park of lions at the Nation Centre for an interview. But even if the request were to be granted, additional security measures would have had to be taken.
Having consulted widely therefore, Larry appeared to have found a perfect solution. “We’ve reached out to the lions’ publicists and are optimistic we’ll interview them on #theTrend tonight,” tweeted Larry.
With Larry’s commitment, more replies were to follow with many expressing their gratitude for a great show expected tonight courtesy the ‘lion publicists’ as Larry would call them.
Meanwhile, a section of Kenyan’s on twitter humorously alluded to a non-existent statement by CORD leader Raila Odinga allegedly linking the lions to a plot to intimidate residents of Lang’ata and Kibera from the on-going voter registration exercise.
